Secularism: The True Enemy of Mankind
Posted by: DeWaun In: Religion| Sign of the Times ()
It is the hallmark trait of every future-oriented civilization to train up the next generation with the values learned from the last. There is an exhortation in the book of Proverbs that reads,
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” –Proverbs 22:6
Have we come so far in this grand experiment called America that we have forgotten the ways of our grandfathers? Have we progressed so far from the ideals and conventions from the days of old? Why is the old path synonymous with obsolescence? Why must technology and modernity equal the eradication of all faith and morality? The self-serving laws of man have made us lazy and greedy. We must know — how could we expect anything less — that the darkness of our thoughts and deeds will inevitably condemn future generations to a dimly lit future, as well.
Politicians, pundits and personalities have all said… that the greatest “enemy” that the United States faced in the Twentieth century was Communism. And today they write that our arch nemesis is Radicalized Islam. They say it poses a serious threat to our national security, our culture and to Western Civilization as a whole. And we seem to characterize the extreme factions of Islam as “The Old World Destroyer” which has been awakened to unleash upon the world their firey brand of domination.
But I submit to you that the most serious threat to our freedoms, liberties and way of life in the United States is radical humanism and secularism — the wholesale abandonment of a reliance and faith in an Almighty God.
French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville once wrote,
“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.”
It goes without saying that de Tocqueville believed, as well as our Founding Fathers, that having faith in our Creator and in His sovereign Will over the affairs of mankind lead to man’s choosing to lead a moral existence, and that morality will lead man’s choosing to choose liberty which brings equality.
History is littered with tragic tales of Peoples and nations that have fallen because they forgot that the wages of sin is death. Look at the story of Jonah and the city of Ninevah. What about Jericho? And the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah?
Can we forget the most famous and tragic of them all — the Roman Empire? They all turned their heads and hearts away from God. And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things. (Case in point: the movie Caligula) And their sins began to eat away at their hearts and minds (where man’s expression of faith comes from), their physical bodies (the vessel through which morality is expressed by man), and their cities, culture and civilization (the mechanism through which they realized their freedom and liberties). Their way of life dissolved…and thus the mighty Rome fell from within.
It is a complete circle, of sorts.
George Washington also agreed with this idea when he said,
“Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”
There is a spirit loose in this world today, that strives to rid the planet of every vestige, every trace of our past — a past that clearly shows mankind’s reliance on a Creator God who was Protector, Sustainer and Redeemer. This spirit is alive and unrestrained in our country today. It’s as clear as the news you read each day. There are those who tirelessly work to cover up the truth about our history and keep it from the citizenry. The goal of this relentless and evil spirit is to raise up a generation that knows little about God. A necessary goal in a wicked plan to ultimately separate the creation from the Creator.
So, is Islamic Fascism a threat to freedom and liberty? Yes. But more importantly, it is our forgetting that our blessings as a people and a nation come from above. It is God and He alone who has extended his Hand of protection to us. We would do well to remember that. Our fate depends upon it.
