2005 has come and gone. A new year is only hours from birth. Much evil is alive in the world. And there are those working, tirelessly, to wage even more in the future. The hand of mankind is grossly inadequate to battle it alone. There must be a rekindling of our relationship to our Creator. Without guidance from the One who hung the stars that shine every night without fail, without the mercy and lovingkindness from the One who gave of Himself on a cross, where would we end up?
Politicians and Lawyers will be known as the instruments of our doom. They clamor and they fall over themselves to seek every shallow answer that assuages the nearing and bitter end of mankind, yet never stop to give hommage to the one who gave them the breath, the talent and answer. My prayer for 2006 is for the world’s politicians and lawyers to come to truly meditate upon this bit of advice from the first US President, George Washington:
“All see, and most admire, the glare which hovers round the external trappings of elevated office. To me there is nothing in it, beyond the lustre which may be reflected from its connection with a power of promoting human felicity.” – George Washington (letter to Catherine MacAuly Graham, 9
January 1790)Reference: George Washington: A Collection, W.B. Allen, ed. (537)
May the following year bring peace and salvation to the hearts of a troubled world, a quiet peace to our battered souls and a touch of simpleness to our grossly over-accessorized existence. Amen.
