Texas and Hurricane Rita

So here’s this tempest barrelling down on Texas like a bull to a red cloak. It looked as if Rita was zeroing in on Houston, Conroe, Huntsville, Corsicana, Dallas/Ft. Worth but it seemed to change. Moving in a slight easterly trajectory, Houston missed the main fury of the storm.
Much of my family lives in Houston and had to evacuate. This includes my mother, which is resident of a nursing home in Friendswood. Her nursing home evacuated all the way to Hillsboro, to nursing homes in and around the area. However being stuck in a bus for so long, dehydration set in and she had to be moved from the nursing home to the local hospital. It took a little over three days to get her back to normal. I was so worried. Being only about 70 miles south of me, I drove down to where my mom was at in Hillsboro. I was so happy to see her. She was overwhelmed when she heard my voice. She can’t see any more so hearing my voice made her cry.
I stayed with her for a few hours. She didn’t want me to leave. Once she dozed off to sleep, I had to slip out. It was so hard to leave her in her hospital bed. She wanted me to take her home with me. That was so hard to hear, but even harder to reply that I couldn’t bring her home with me.
I tell her constantly how much that I love her…and how much I miss her. I keep praying that my mother will either get better or the Lord will take her peacefully, quickly and while she sleeps. That’s the hardest thing I’ve ever prayed.
So, Houston appears to have missed the brunt of Hurricane Rita and my mom’s nursing home will have to journey back to the Houston area. During the evacuation, they stay in the bus for about 20 hours. I’m hoping and praying that the trip back will be much, much quicker…for everyone’s sake. The elderly and the sick can’t endure like they once could. They tire much easier.
Being thankful that Rita was much less damaging than Katrina, I pray for those who had to evacuate that they return safely home and find all is well.
